What to Expect After Pressure Washing Your Home (Dry Time, Smells & Results)

You just had your home professionally washed. The crew is gone, everything looks great — but what should you expect over the next few days? Here's everything Mebane homeowners want to know.
Immediately After the Job
What You'll See - **Wet siding, walkways, and roof** for several hours - **Bright, clean surfaces** that often look noticeably lighter - **Streaks or runoff lines** that disappear as everything dries evenly - **Some lingering moisture** in shaded areas
What You'll Smell - **A mild bleach or chlorine smell** from the soft wash solution - This dissipates within 1–4 hours and is **completely safe** at the dilutions we use - The smell is strongest right after the rinse and fades quickly
The First 24 Hours
- Avoid spraying or rinsing anything that was treated — the cleaning chemistry is still working
- Light foot traffic on cleaned concrete is fine after about an hour
- Pets can return outside once everything is dry to the touch
- Avoid hanging laundry or opening windows on the wet side of the house

The First Week
You'll notice:
- Surfaces continue to brighten as residual algae and mildew finish dying
- Concrete may look slightly different in color from areas that weren't cleaned
- Any spotted areas of stubborn growth typically clear up within 5–7 days
- Light pollen settling is normal during pollen season
What's Normal
- Some greenery near treated surfaces may yellow temporarily — this is the soft wash solution and typically recovers fully
- Moisture in shaded areas can linger for a day, especially in fall and winter
- Bleach smell in enclosed areas like under porches for several hours
- Slight color variation between freshly cleaned and untreated surfaces
What's Not Normal (Call Us)
- Streaks that don't go away after 48 hours
- Visible damage to caulking or paint
- Plant damage that doesn't recover within a week
- Persistent strong chemical smell beyond 24 hours
Long-Term Results
A professional soft wash typically keeps your home looking great for 12–18 months in the Mebane climate. Concrete cleanings hold for 6–12 months depending on tree cover and traffic.
